How to read a certificate
A certificate is a laboratory's statement about one batch. These are the fields that matter and what each one tells you.
Milligrams of compound actually present against the label claim. Lyophilized fills commonly assay slightly above or below the nominal mass.
The share of the chromatogram that is the target compound. Our specification floor is 98.0%; certified lots run above 99.3%.
Membrane-filtration culture over 14 days. "No growth observed" is the only acceptable result.
Ordered, received and completed dates show the sample's path through the lab. Gaps or reversed dates are a red flag on any certificate.
The certificate applies to the batch named on it only. If the lot on your vial does not match, the paperwork is not yours.
A named analyst, a signature and a key checkable at the lab's own site. An unsigned certificate from an unnamed source is a marketing graphic.
What a certificate is not
A certificate of analysis describes the identity, potency, purity and sterility of the lot tested, by the methods referenced. It is not approval by any regulatory body, not a safety assessment, and not a statement that the material is fit for any particular application.
